What is the value of a gallon?
Enough gasoline to make it eighteen miles down the highway.
Enough paint for a new coat of Springtime Yellow in the upstairs bath.
Enough water to turn the sprinklers on in the backyard for one minute.
 OR…enough life-saving red blood cells, plasma, or platelets for up to twenty-four patients at Altru.
Eight blood donations amount to one gallon. Each donation of blood can be divided into three components and given to three different people. So, the value of a gallon, to us, is the possibility for twenty-four people to receive life-saving transfusions.
To say thank you for donating a gallon, the Dak-Minn Blood Bank provides each donor with a small token of our appreciation for every eighth donation. Upon reaching ten gallons, donors receive a personalized, engraved plaque.
Our “Wall of Fame” features the names and number of gallons donated of Dak-Minn Blood Bank Gallon Club member’s and can be found in Altru Hospital down the hall from the gift shop.
Whether you’re a one gallon donor or a fifty gallon donor, we want to thank you for every pint!
